ABOUT TERRY RUSCIN
TERRY RUSCIN is a retired advertising executive, an award-winning author and designer, historian (Western Caroliniana, Californiana and Serrana), photographer, and public speaker. He is a former board member of and concomitant advisor for the California Missions Foundation, board member of the Henderson County Heritage Museum, and editor of ¡Siempre Adelante!, the international newsletter promoting the cause for sainthood of Blessed Junípero Serra, OFM.
Reared in northwest Wisconsin, Ruscin is a graduate of Wayne State University in Detroit and a former 25-year resident of California. He has lived in rural Hendersonville, N.C., since 2004.
A seasoned, independent traveler with a fanatically critical palate, Ruscin—a self-professed gastro-snob—drew on copious notes and interviews from thousands of dining experiences abroad and across America for his books Taste for Travel and Dining & Whining.
Ruscin’s epic Los Duendes: A Nostalgic Journey through Spain unravels what makes the Spaniard tick—not to mention, what appeals to the Spanish palate.
His first book Mission Memoirs, a coffee-table book on the historic California missions, earned the coveted Benjamin Franklin Award, was honored as “Art Book of the Year” by San Diego Magazine, and counted among only 29 titles included in Rounce & Coffin Club’s 2000 Western Books Exhibition.
Photographs by Terry Ruscin count among the images in Jerome Tupa and Holly Witchey’s book An Uncommon Mission. Ruscin also collaborated in Monsignor Francis J. Weber’s books Cathedral; Santa Margarita de Cortona Asistencia; Encyclopedia of California’s Catholic Heritage; Books, Books, Books; and Memories of an Old Country Priest.
Ruscin has also written feature articles for the Hendersonville Times-News and the magazines Bold Life, Mountain Traditions and Carolina Home & Garden.
